These are interface specifications. They do not supply measured sequential transfer rates, application load times, sustained write performance or SSD model numbers. The sheet also does not identify which drive contains Windows. A Gen5 label alone cannot tell you how a particular workload behaves on this machine.

Two installed drives and two Windows volumes are different claims. MSI’s capacity row does not establish the partition layout, whether the drives are combined into an array, or a RAID mode. It also does not give the amount of space available to the owner after formatting, software and recovery data. Read the two entries as the factory storage specification, rather than a promise about the layout shown in File Explorer. MSI’s HDD Capacity and HDD Interface rows.

The distinction matters when planning an upgrade. Installed drive count does not reveal an accessible unused socket, supported replacement dimensions or lane-sharing rules. MSI’s broader A2XWIG platform table describes four M.2 positions: three Gen4 positions and one Gen5-compatible position. That is platform context, not a verified count of empty positions in a particular 616US. Match the machine’s revision and service documentation before buying another drive. Replacing one drive and adding a third drive are separate upgrade plans. MSI platform specifications.

Keep review configurations separate, too. A Titan review with different SSD capacities, a different GPU or an explicitly configured RAID array describes the tested machine. Its storage results do not become measurements of the 616US. This guide explains the manufacturer’s two-drive specification and includes no GoBuyMilk storage benchmark.

For a purchase or upgrade, verify three things: the exact 616US identity, the drives actually fitted by the seller, and the documentation for the intended change. A seller’s replacement SSDs should be described as that sold configuration, with the responsible seller and applicable written coverage. The factory two-drive specification remains the reference for understanding what changed.
